Las Vegas

Hi,

Back once upon a time, during the Jerry Lewis telethon or maybe during the local tv breaks, there was this theme music the producers would play over and over. Being unfamiliar with a lot of the big band music era, but being familiar with Bert's music because my dad was a big fan of his, I just assumed that the song they kept playing was a Bert Kaempfert composition or rendition because it sounded like it could've been from Bert. Now knowing that one of Bert's songs is 'Las Vegas' and also the fact that Jerry broadcasts his telethons from Las Vegas, is this 'Las Vegas' the song that I used to hear? Even if it isn't, is there a way to get this song domestically in the U.S.A.? Thanks for any feedback on this.

Las Vegas

I am not exactly sure what you are asking, but Las Vegas is a strong staccato/pizzicato number with fast beat and abrupt pauses. It must have been one of Bert's first tunes (being from the 50s) - but the more I have listened to it, the more I have realized how clever it is.

A number of those songs from SHH! IT'S BK remind me of a soundtrack for an old-time movie, and Las Vegas would be a perfect theme song for a 1940s movie about Vegas. It has a definite Leroy Anderson influence - sorry, I forget the name of the pizzicato piece he did. I also like the way that oboe comes in for the bridge of the song - a very unusual but well-thought effect.

It was a long shot question. More than likely it was somebody else who did the background music. I was referring to Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon. Somebody from the US would have to verify as I haven't heard the song yet, but will get it and hear it eventually.
