San Antonio Rose

I was told Bert did a cover of Floyd Cramer's 'San Antonio Rose'. Is this true? What album does it appear on?

San Antonio Rose

"San Antonio Rose" appears on the LP "Bert Kaempfert Special" Polydor Special 236207 from the UK.

If searching on Ebay be careful as there is an LP by the same name on the Contour label 2870101 and with the same cover. There are 10 tracks on the Contour LP and 12 on the Polydor.

This LP is "Mono recording electronically reprocessed to give stereo effect".

The missing track featured on the Polydor LP is "Midnight Blues".

The Contour LP is also issued as "Ssh! It's... Bert Kaempfert". Contour CN 2009.

The single "San Antonio Rose" was issued as a single by "The Modern Mixers and Their Twangy Guitar" = Ladi Geisler and produced by Bert Kaempfert.

On the BK Special LP you will also find "Mason Dixon Line" and "Cannonball" recorded on January 13 1959 by Modern Mixers and their Twangy Guitar/Ladi Geisler. These 2 songs you can find on the Ladi Geisler CD "Mr. Guitar" on Bear CD BCD 16197 AH.

Kind regards. Nils Folke Persson.

San Antonio Rose

Awesome! Thanks for the info! :-)

I knew that Taragon had mentioned they put the wrong version of Monte Carlo on the The Magic Music cd when I read the liner notes on the Bye Bye Blues cd. I knew they put the wrong version of Monte Carlo when I first heard it on the Magic cd. I was just pointing out that they made another 'boo-boo' by not being true to the original Decca release with Take Seven and putting the wrong version on the cd, from what all is being discussed. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. My dad only had an extensive Decca collection, but he never had the original Hold Me lp, one of the few Decca's he didn't have, so the version that I hear on the cd sounds pretty good to me, not hearing the version that was on the original Decca LP.

So "San Antonio Rose", Mason Dixon Line" and "Cannonball are not done by the Kaempfert Orchestra, just Ladi Geisler and produced by Bert? Btw, how would you rate Ladi's rendition of San Antonio Rose?

Also you mentioned 'This LP is "Mono recording electronically reprocessed to give stereo effect". I purchased the Polydor singles collection cds which includes a mono version of Midnight Blues. If this means fake stereo, then the Polydor Special release will sound different than the Contour Special and Ssh release and the Polydor singles cd release, correct? I've always wanted to hear Midnight Blues and the rest of the mono single releases in anything BUT mono!

Also, do you or anyone else here have a complete BK lp discography (except Decca) with song titles they could send me and what cd's to find them on, if possible? I'm just aware of Taragon's Decca lp cd releases and kaempfert.de's cd releases. When I visit music lp's for sale sites, there are a ton of BK lps, titles that the kaempfert.de site doesn't mention or selling on cd. And the unfortunate thing is they don't tell you what the song titles are. You mention 'Bert Kaempfert Special' on Polydor and the Contour label release for example. Is this way too much to ask for? How many songs have not made it on cd yet? I'm on a mission to get as much of Bert's music as possible and this would really help. Thanks!

Missing songs on CD - for bk audiopart

As i know only two tracks are missing on CD at this time: IMBOTE from the Polydor-LP 237657 "Let's go bowling" and MY LIFE FOR YOUR LOVE from the Polydor-LP 237563 " The Wonderland of Bert Kaempfert". But maybe there are further unknown "Bonus-Tracks" in the archives ? I'm waiting for them of the two LPs "Warm and Wonderful (One lonely night)" and "Orange colored sky" which their special sound for each.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to work my way up to that point. Can you tell me whether or not all the song titles on these Polydor lp releases can be found on the Taragon (Decca) cd releases?

Dreaming In Wonderland- Polydor 237598
Dancing In Wonderland- Polydor 237570

It would be so nice to have a Polydor discography. I can't find one on the internet. Thanks again for your help.

BK Collection

1. Dreaming In Wonderland:

The Decca/Taragon version was released in part as "Lights Out, Sweet Dreams", however, with 12 tracks only compared to the original German Polydor LP containing 16 tracks. In the early stages Decca "amputated" the Polydor LPs. So the "Lights Out, Sweet Dreams" LP only contains 10 tracks from the Polydor LP.

Lights Out, Sweet Dreams, Decca DL-74265 (1961) (Charted Nov 30, 1963)
Polydor DREAMING IN WONDERLAND (10 tracks) 46398 Stereo 237598
plus A) "Whispering" from "LIVING IT UP"
B) "Gemma" from 'LET'S GO BOWLING"

Sometimes you can find on Ebay a double CD set "The Wonderland Of Bert Kaempfert" Polydor 0054040 where CD2 is identical to "Dreaming In Wonderland".
Good hunting !

2. Dancing In Wonderland:
Dancing In Wonderland, Decca DL-74161 (1960) Polydor 46370 Stereo 237570
US version including Sleepy Lagoon (see Wonderland of BK)
Excluding Dancing In The Dark (included in Afrikaan Beat)

The Decca/Taragon version contains 11 tracks from the Polydor version. However, look for the CD Polydor 513 245-2 then you get the whole LP.

Trust this is helpfull. Kind regards. Nils Folke Persson.

It has also been encouraging to see all the "new" members to the Bert Kaempfert forum.

And to the newcomers who are going to collect BK material, good hunting.

Kind regards from a hot and rainy (heavy rain) Singapore.
